  1. Usually it's more of a check of paperwork. They make sure all immunizations are done, birth certificate is valid, etc. They may see how much the child knows, but does not have to know to enter, like A,B,C's, numbers, etc. Don't sweat it! It's no big deal. It's more for paperwork, than anything else.

  2. If it is Pre-K in a public school system, they are looking for students with the most delayed learning.  That way students that are in the "most need" of early education in preperation for Kindergaren are serviced.

  3. We do a developmental screening in my program.  It's nothing to worry about.  We want to know what our new students know and what they need to learn prior to entering kindergarten.  It helps us in planning our lessons.  For example, we might learn that most of our new class knows most of the alphabet, but very little math or science skills, so we'll need focus more learning activities on math and science.  Don't be worried.  Play with your child, sing with him, run and jump and climb with him, and read, read, read to him.  If you're doing these things, he's ready for Pre-K!

  4. My 4 year old had to go through the same thing when he entered school this year.  I filled out basic paperwork on his health, name, telephone numbers, contacts, bus route, ect. then he had to talk to a teacher about what he already knew.  Did he know how to count yet, ABC, address, writing, ect.  I was very nervous about this since I was still working on teaching him these things, however the teacher told me it was just to see what he already knew so they knew what class to place him in.  They seperated the classes based on age and what they knew.  Like they didn't want to place him in a class with alot of kids who already knew there ABC.

  5. The pre-screening probably has more to do with his health record as far as vaccinations up to date, and clearance from a dentist and eye physician.  The school should have forms for you to fill out and any forms that need to be signed by a physician or dentist to clear him to go to pre-k.  Just call the school and ask someone.

  6. qualify perhaps with a developmental delay?  Such as speech, hearing, cognitive abilities, social interaction, small or large motor delays.

    Or qualifying financially.

  7. mostly they check if the child is ok has all the vaccinations but sometimes they do ask certain questions relating to alphabets and numbers. depends on the state and school
