  1. It's a time shifting device. You can shift time backwards!

  2. The ability to play back and pause a live TV program while its still recording is known as time shift. Most DVD-R and HDD recorders come with this function and it is extremely popular with couch potatoes and sports fans who want the freedom to pause and continue a live game or movie broadcast without having to miss anything.

  3. When you can stop a programme your watching and it will record it until you play from where you left off. The programme ends later.

  4. It basically lets you pause TV.  You hit timeshift and the programme you are watching pauses (it actually gets recorded) - when you press pause again it starts playing.

  5. ok - so you are watching your favourite soap

    jehovas witnesses knock the door

    you switch on time shift

    your program continues

You tell your visitors to politely "go away" after about 10 minutes

you can then go back to your program and not miss a thing - you can catch time back by editing out the adverts etc.

  6. Simple.

If a show or program comes on at a specific time, say 8 pm, and you want to 'record' it and watch it at 10 pm or the next day, that is "time shifting".

Also, say you start recording the show and then watch it at 8:15,  while the show is 'still on' you are time shifting by 15 minutes.
