  1. I did a quick 2 week tikitour of mainly central and northern Italy....and I did some research in ; some places but not all.....but I can recommend all the places I visited:

Verona - was pretty and has a nice feel

Venice - smaller than i thought, the back streets are a little dank and some are VERY narrow, but its worth seeing for a day or 2.

Siena - is very pretty...more medieval in feel and has a cool duomo.

Montepulciano - a little mountain top village which has great views of the surrounding area and is lovely.

Rome - less attractive than paris but has a few things to see. do some research on the things to see as there are lots.

I did a day tour to pompeii from Rome which was great ( we went thru naples which did not look attractive)

Florence - is very pretty and has lots of renaissance things to see.

Pisa - its only an hour from florence and apart from the tower there is not much to see

Lucca - around an hour from Florence too and is called a mini florence. If you want to get away from the throngs of florence, come here...its lovely and is a town enclosed in a wall.

Bologna - again more medieval in feel but worth a look,.....i only had a fleeting visit here but wanted to see more.

Eat whatever you can....its all good.

  3. I haven't yet been to Italy (I'm going next year), but I've already started making a list of things I definitely want to see/do...I'm very excited :-)

See/do (some of these are very obvious choices):

    - Visit the Vatican, Colosseum, Roman Forum (and Palantine Hill), St. Peter's Basicalla and the Catacombs

    - Climb the Spanish Steps and throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain

    - Tell a lie with my hand in the mouth (if it is allowed...I'm not sure I'll be able to touch it) of La Bocca della Verità

    - Take a trip to the Pantheon and Capital Hill Museums

    - Victor Emmanuel Monument is, considered by many Italians, to be very tacky which makes me want to see it even more.

    - Castel Sant’ Angelo

...and so much more. Just take a look around! There's plenty to do around every corner. I've been told that one of the most beautiful views in Rome can be seen on Aventine Hill at the Giardino degli Aranci...that's also a must.

As far as food goes, try anything and everything you can get your hands on. Italian ice cream (gelato) is suppose to be the best in the world. Wine, pasta, pizza, fresh bread, biscotti, gnocchi, spaghetti alla carbonara, carciofi alla giudia...anything and everything!

    Good luck and have fun!
