Does anyone know what you can do to drop or eliminate credit card finance charges?

You should call and ask the card company. Are you expecting a one-time favor or in general? If it's once or twice, they're likely to oblige. I wouldn't hold my breath if you're expecting them to waive your charges forever...that's how they make their money.

The obvious answer is to pay off your credit cards.  Another way would be to take advantage of an offer in the mail to transfer all outstanding balances at a low interest rate, but read the fine print on that carefully because the transfer fee is not all that low sometimes.  Credit card companies make their money on finance charges, so there's no other easy way to get out of them.
