  1. You can contact your local E-911 center, police or sheriff's department and find out if they're hiring and go through the application process just like any other job. Generally there aren't too many pre-employment requirements with the exception that you cannot have a criminal history. Some agencies also require you to be 21. You'll go through an interview process, and if selected you'll be trained hands-on style after observing dispatchers for a week or so. You'll eventually get formal training, but it's limited due to budgets.

  2. Wow, the two previous answers are WAY off.  First off, go ahead and apply.  Any training you need will be provided by the agency that hires you.  Secondly, training to be a 911 Telecommunicator will last anywhere from 3-12 months...NOT 1-2 weeks.  If you find out that a 911 center only offers a couple weeks of training, under no circumstances should you apply there.  It is impossible to learn how to be a 911 Telecommunicator in any time frame less then 3 months.

You need to be able to handle high stress working conditions and your schedule will have to be very flexible due to overtime and working holidays and weekends.  Being able to multitask is also very important.

You cannot have any felonies on your record either.

  3. Go down a fill out an application. I think they have a 2 week training period then your on your own.
