Does anyone know when carnival is in rio de janeiro?

would like to know a good place to stay during the carnival season and would also want info on copacabana beach

  1. Salvador de Bahia or Olinda is better for Carnivale as you are able to participate in the festivities as opposed to just sitting and watching a parade like in Rio.

    Copacabana is a bit more seedy than Leblon, Ipanema or Sao Conrado which are much cleaner and upscale.  Copacabana has more crime and a lot of prostitues and transvestites on the street at night.

    It's got the exact dates for everything, free booking services, info on the city, reccommendations... seriously, if you're going to Rio, you MUST check it out.

    btw, Rio Carnaval is *awesome* but only go for one night.

  4. Carnival is held 40 days before Easter at the beginning of Lent. This usually falls around the last week of February. As for where to stay, I am not sure. Rio is on my list of places to see, but I have not made it there yet. There are many good hotels in the area, it all depends on your budget and needs. Hope you have a good time.
