  1. If money is your prime consideration, I can recommend a site that is free to all. It is called public school.

  2. What you're asking for is distance education, not homeschool.

Also, as someone else said, by using the word 'cheap' you don't tell us anything ('cheap' is one of those essentially meaningless words cuz it's so subjective).

Anyway, the cheapest way to homeschool is to do it yourself - put together your own curriculum, find your own resources etc. You can do that with little more than a library card.

Cheap providers of distance education? I dunno. Here, the individual States run their own cyber-schools that, providing you meet the criteria, are essentially free. I guess the best I can offer you is check out your local homeschooling community, I'm pretty sure someone there will be able to tell you what is/isn't available locally.

  3. Cheap??

Not many things that are good will come without some sort of price tag.

I would look for the best quality for the best price.

I can give you the web site of an inexpensive, but very good academy.

  4. You cannot do Connections Academy in IL anyway and FLVA is free only for FL residents.  The only way to do the only virtual public school, Chicago Virtual Academy, is to live in the Chicago school district.

Other than that, you're going to have to pay money for online/distance education, or do your own lessons for free using the library and the Internet.

There are many HS'ing curriculums.  Since we don't know what "cheap" (it's relative) means to you, you're going to have to do research and see what you can afford.

The biggest decision next to the cost of HS'ing is to know your child's (childrens'?) learning styles and choose a curriculum that meets that style.  It may be different for each child, meaning different curricula companies or methods for each.

  6. i am in a 7th grade cyber charter school and we go to k12 its very astablished....  ITS FREE!!

im not so sure they do it in illinois tho but if u go 2 k12.com it will tell you

  7. Home schooling means that you teach from home yourself

  8. Internet Academy

  9. Most 'cheap' homeschool curriculums are not of a good quality and might not benefit them in the future when the college recruiters come around.

Is there a reason why you want online versus traditional book/discussion/writing curriculum?  At the advanced ages of your children, a curriculum that is discussion and book based would better benefit them in the long-run.

"The Everything Homeschooling Book" by Sherri Linsenbach is a great resource to help you get established, inform you of your legal rights and resources that are online to aid in your homeschooling.  I homeschool my middle school boys for about $400 per year each.  I use Houghton-Mifflin books, and other mainstream textbooks and usually can find them on Ebay along with Teacher's manuals also.

What you are embarking on is a great way to give your child quality education.  According to statistics, the recorded number of homeschooled children in 2007 was over 250,000 and it's estimated that approximately 75,000 children are homeschooled but are not 'registered'.

There is a link below that has a great amount of information and you can find a group in your state and area that you can socialize with and get ideas from.

With public schools hiring teachers with little and sometime NO formal education in the teaching field, homeschooling is becoming more and more of a necessity for those of us that have children that need to thrive instead of being taught by the lowest common denominator.  I was a substitute teacher in our school district for a couple years when my boys were younger  I have only an associates in anthropology but I have been called upon to teach for  biology and algebra.  I taught an 8th grade chemistry class for 5 months and have NO experience in chemistry.  This is the state of our public schools today.  Over 40% of the public school teachers have UNDER a bachelors in education or any field for that matter.

You are doing a great service to your children and I applaud you.

    good luck...

BTW, that book is a great resource and I find it at the library easily.  I eventually bought it and still refer to it for ideas.
