  1. I live in Alaska and serve on a local refinery comunitty board.

By US Congressional law, all oil from Alaska must be sold and shipped for delivery to the United States.  Typically the oil loaded into tankers at Valdez are bound for refineries in Seattle and California.

When the pipeline was built an average of 2.8 million barrels of oil flowed daily.  Thanks to the Democratic party and their refusal to allow additional drilling and exploration the pipeline now only has 300,000 barrels flowing a day.

The pipeline was designed to last 25 years.  It is now almost 31 years old.  Two years ago a project to upgrade the line was started - when finished in about another year the pipeline will have the ability to run at greater pressure and push up to 4.8 million barrels per day or batch ship small shipments for better economy.

Consider that an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico usually produces 3,000 barrels a day.  With a little more exploration and drilling the Alaska pipeline could easily ramp back up to it's old capacity of 2.8 million barrels in 9-18 months.  Of course, the Alaskan delegation to Washington has been proposing this ever since the gas crunch of the late 1970's - but - nobody wanted to listen.

When the Alaskan pipeline was built that are had about 600,000 caribou and 5,000 polar bears.  Today the same area has well over 2,000,000 caribou and 25,000 polar bears 30 years later - a fact you do not hear many people quoting.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Google "oil in Alaska"....it's all there!

  3. We do not export oil from alaska.

It is all shipped to refineries in California.

The last time oil from Alaska was sold internationally was in 2002.

And that was only because the oil tanker carrying the oil, had mechanical problems,

That resulted in it having to sail to a Korean Ship yard for repairs.

So the tanker off loaded the oil in China, on the way to Korea.

    .........................................

Back when they first started drilling in Alaska,

California did not have the refinery capacity to handle all the oil coming from Alaska,

And it would have cost to much to sail around south america to get to refineries in Texas or Lousiana.

So the exported the excess to Japan.

But starting in the 1990's, improvements in the refineries in California and lower production in the Alaskan oil fields.

Meant hat 100% of the Alaskan oil, started going to Calafornia.

    .........................................

The US does still export heavy crude oil.

    AKA Bunker Oil

But that is because it cannot be refined into useful products

And the US does not have a high demand for bunker oil.
