Question:

Does anyone know where I can find obsolete Irish Pound Coins?

I am looking for two or three Irish 1 Pound coins for a project. I'm interested in the version minted from 1990 to 1999, with the Deer on the front and the harp on the back. Since Ireland switched to the Euro, they've become impossible to find. Does anyone have any ideas?

  1. Do you live in Ireland. If so go to the market arcade off Sth. Georges Street in Dublin and buy one relatively cheaply from a dealer there.  If not I am sure you will get one on ebay. They are not particularly valuable and should not cost too much.

  2. i've got a bunch and i was pretty p****d about losing out on cashing them in, they are beautiful

  3. I have one. But it'll cost you!

  4. Check ebay.  You not allowed to sell currency unless it is obsolete (i.e., old European currencies).

    Good Luck!

P.S. You might want to see if you can get the Millenium pound coins (only a few came out in 2000).

  5. You could try eBay. I know that many people still find the auction site troublesome as it requires you to use online payment methods but in your case this is perhaps the best way for you to acquire those Irish pound coins without moving around. You could also visit your local coin dealers but I can tell you that not many of them, if any, sell European modern coins. Good luck.
