This is for an agriculture assignment. We have to choose a farm animal, (I chose chicken) and reserch 4 breeds of it. I don't know much, but does anyone know where there would be some general info about them and what some common breeds are? I can't find any, just info about keeping them as pets.

TY ;)

  1. If you can maneuver a question to yahoo answers, surely you can google "chicken".  In less than the time it takes to turn on your computer, google will return 17 million choices from the word "chickens".

  2. The first site will give you all of the information you need to get started. #2 will list many breeds to chose from and their good and bad points. If this is for an agriculture assignment they are not going to be interested in seeing you raise the chickens as pets. Write a report on raising chickens for egg production, free range would be best for the chickens. Then you can make pets of them if you like, but they will still be productive. That is what your Agriculture Teacher is going to be looking for.

  4. CHECK THIS LINK OUT. IT WILL TELL YOU ALL YOU WANT TO KNOW.::http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/poultry/

  5. not sure if you could choose poultry instead of chickens, that would allow your research to be a bit more general and you could gain by contrasting avian such as duck, goose, chicken, quail, turkey, etc. even emu or ostrich.

    just a thought.

  6. If you want to see some amazing chickens and get some good information about care and husbandry of chickens check out the link I have posted .

They have all of the usual suspects and also carry fancy and exotic chickens such as the ones Martha Stewart likes to raise.  "(Its a good thing!)"

  7. Here's a page on my favorite breed of chicken, the Japanese Bantam.

    They make great pets!

  8. The best places I know to find information on breeds are in breed books.  Your local library should have them.  Some of the best books are not the pet books but the small farm books.  I've also found agricultural index information on different breeds that was quite useful.

  9. There are over 300 standard and bantam breeds of chickens throughout the world.

Each country also has it's own breeds.

    Feathersite.com is a great site.

The hatchery websites tell alot about their breeds.

    What country are you in?

Several in U.S.: e.g. Ideal, Privett, McMurray

    carry classical breeds for hobbiests.
