I am rephrasing my previous question here. Thanks to the few of you who did answer my previous question. Selling the house is NOT an option that we can do at this time. We are looking for reasonable homeowners insurance not, car insurance. If you know of any companies who can or will write a reasonable plan, please share them with us. Thank you

  1. Each and every insurance company rates change from time to time, and never all at the same time. With todays price increases all companies are doing adjustments to their premiums, so best advice would be to shop around. Whats reasonable with one company today, doesn't necc

Depending on the state you are in, look up some local agencies and get quotes. Remember that you always have monthly payment options and you can choose higher deductible to lower your premium.  If you are honest and upfront with your agent, they may be able to help you better if they know your situation.

    Best of luck!

  2. OK, just for the record, 99% of families are on fixed incomes, here in the USA.

House insurance premiums are not based on your income - it's based on the exposure, which means, the cost to rebuild your house, your credit score, the age of the house, updates, etc.

Depending on where you are, particularly LA and FL, it's going to be almost impossible to get more than one company willing to give you a quote.   If you have poor credit, that's going to increase your rates, as will poor claims history, an un-updated house, or high hazard location.

You need to talk to your agent, about how to cut rates.  One way, is by having house and car insurance with the same company - I've seen discounts up to 25% for that.  Another way is taking a really high deductible - like $5,000 or more.

Not all companies write in all states, and there is no short cut to shopping around.  A local, independent agent will know who has the best deal in your area, and can help you balance coverage vs. cost.

  3. what state?  If you are in florida you need to get a free windstorm mitigation inspection done.  You can get them at mysafefloridahome.com.  Those forms save anytwhere from 30%-90% of the hurricane portion of your premium

  4. Homeowners insurance is not based on income.  It is based on where you live, the cost to rebuild your house, type of house (brick or frame), age of house, updates to house (wiring, roof, heating & plumbing) & general condition of your house, etc.

One company may have a great rate for your next door neighbor and the same company may have a terrible rate for you, it depends.  The best thing to do to find the best rate is to call more than one independent agent who can shop your insurance to several companies.  Most independent agents have a short list of their companies in their yellow pages ad, try to find some that list different companies.  The big direct writers (Allstate, State Farm, Nationwide, etc) may not always have the best rate & they only can quote you with one company, calling 3 independent agents may get you quotes with up to 30 companies (depending on the size of the agency).

Also, you may be able to get a multi policy credit if you get your auto and homeowners insurance with the same company.  I have one company that gives a 22% discount on EACH policy.

  5. That's why insurance agents exist. Do you have one??

Look under  "insurance" and start calling. They deal with poeople in your position every day.

  6. Try to have as much information as you could perhaps is one of the options, however it is labor consuming, here is the place i have ever had good experience with.http://insurance.online-frees.info/insur...

  7. see these people http://finance.ebookorama.com/ukusa-sele...

t's one form to get a number of quotes from different insurers. It's free and a big time saver, these are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so you are bound to find something that suits you, if it works out remember my points please :)
