  1. You can get a free voice mail box here:

    http://www.laservoicemail.com/

It is local to me, but it may be long distance to you, in which case you might want to use DukaDial to connect to it free:

    Good luck!

  2. Most VoIP services will provide you with Voice Mail as part of the service.

It is possible to use their voice mail features without actually having to fuss with the VoIP equipment, if you choose not to actually use VoIP phones with the service.

    Here is how:

Subscribe to a prepaid, pay-as-you-go VoIP service such as CallCentric or InPhonex.  They have very low rates.  No contracts, no commitments, no long term obligations.

With these services, you are able to self-administer your account settings through your account web portal.

    - Purchase an area code phone number, or a 1-866 toll free number through their VoIP service.

    - Activate the voicemail feature.

    - Configure account to forward all copies of voicemail to be sent to your business email account.  You can then listen to these voice messages on your PC.

    - Log in to your VoIP account at any time to delete any old voice mails.  (you will have email copies of all your voice messages)

There are two ways to handle incoming calls to your VoIP area code number, or 1-866 toll free number:

    1. The calls can be forwarded to your business phones.  And if not answered after x number of rings, then voicemail will pickup the call, record the message, then send you a copy via email.

    2. Set-up your account to have all calls routed directly to voicemail , without ringing to your business number.  Then voicemail will pickup the call, record the message, then send you a copy via email.

In essence, this is how you can create and administer your own voice mail service, without getting bogged down with VoIP equipment issues.
