Hybrid Technologies is doing interesting work in the conversion of production cars to electric.

Though, if you're not cash rich, it's best to just be politically active to demand cleaner, affordable, efficient cars ASAP!

They already exist, but Americans can't buy them for purely political reasons.

There are supposed to be more electric cars coming out very soon. Most will have a gasoline cell backup and run up to about 40 miles before you have to recharge or use backup. They are all going to cost around the same as a new BMW though.
