  1. Aqatic turtles.

I got my Red eared sliders on my 18th b-day. That was 36 yrs ago. They are alive and happy in a pond for the last 12 plus yrs. They don't live past 25 yrs they say.  This is a pet with alot of  $$$ to start out with a BIG tank so your not spending $$ over the yrs to upgrade on tanks as they can grow to 12" the female that is and males are smaller, but have the lonest front nails used in their mating daance, so GO Large rite off the bat.

Walmart sells a 55 gallon tank with hood, light and decent filter for $153.00. You would need to buy some extra stuff, but that is a cheap tank set up with a good filter. You still need the rep light and large enough gravel they can’t swallow., and a dock…and fish and rep food.

THere are a few things to understand before you buy one or 2 of these. I think mine have lasted so long because they have always had each other.

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA for 8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system! Gravel larger than they can swallow.

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

TOSS in a bird cuttle bone in the water for calcium. it will dissolve real slow and if they eat it that’s fine!!

They can have garden worm, meal worms, crickets, flies, crayfish and  anything that moves!

They need leafy greens Romaine, Butter lettuce. (Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any other leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.

You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, blowing bubbles, Swollen cloudy eyes means lacking in Vitamin A. Which we all need for good eyes. Google ‘vegetables with Vitamin A.

    I wish you luck.

  2. it's rare to find a free reptile and beyond that, to also get a free enclosure. People typically don't give things away. The best place to find something for free is either craigslist, the curbside on garbage day, or your local newspaper in the thrifty section. You can also try the spca or a reptile rescue but sometimes they may ask for a adoption fee. Reptiles cost a lot of money to care for so if you aren't able to purchase the reptile itself or the tank, you may want to wait in purchasing a reptile.

  3. unlikely you'll get a free rep most people dont just give them away to people because they may not know how to care for them. check to see if u have any local reptile sanctuaries. also "surprise" reptiles are never a good idea as it takes time to get the correct set-up temperatures and humidity balances and even people who have been doing this a long time need to refresh there knowledge of a species before caring for 1

as for a free tank try freecycle

any reptile that is given away free probably is aggressive or has some health or behavior issue personally i would re consider. also an "any reptile" attitude isnt a good . talk it through with your son and see what he want

  4. www.craigslist.com

    www.freecycle.org

or go to your local thrift shop for something cheap

check with friends and relatives, sometimes they have stuff laying around

    garage sales...

  5. no such think as a  free reptile but check out www.kingsnake.com

  6. adopt one at a local pet store for free

  7. well u cant get them free but u can try your local pet store or online or even try petsmart and plz people help me with my quest http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
