  1. The shorter the cruise, the less it costs.  There are some one and two night cruises to nowhere (the ship goes out to sea, you get to enjoy the facilities, and when the time is up the ship returns to port).

Nonetheless, I would recommend a three or four night cruise as a good, inexpensive cruise.  Most of these leave from Los Angeles, Miami and Port Canaveral.  Most three and four night cruises are offered by Carnival and Royal Caribbean.  I have been on one three night cruise on each of the two cruise lines.

Typically the three night cruises run from Friday to Monday and the four night cruises run from Monday to Friday.  Thus, if you go during the school year, you might find the four night cruises are less expensive than the three night cruises.

Which brings up timing.  Cruises during holiday time (Christmas, summer, Easter ...) cost more than cruises during the rest of the year.  Prices are usually fairly low between Thanksgiving and Christmas (as long as the cruise does not include Thanksgiving or Christmas).

The least expensive cabins are the inside cabins (no windows).  Then the ocean view cabins (a window with a view of the ocean, or whatever else is out there), balcony cabins (a cabin with a private balcony) and finally suites (bigger cabins - most with large private balconies).

Also, within each category (inside, ocean view, balcony and suite) the lower decks are less expensive than the upper decks.  And in some cases the cabins in the middle of the deck cost more than the cabins near the bow or stern.

I hope this helps in trying to find a cruise within your budget.

  2. I would contact tmccaffery@vacationsnbeyond.com or visit there site and request a quote

  3. Sure I went on this cruise about 3 weeks ago and it cheap cheap cheap

  4. Depending where you want to go and when. Most lines offer reduced rates at the beginning or end of a season. You can either sign up at their sites for email alerts on special pricing or call an agent. Figure out your budget & the places or things you would like to do including transportation to & from the ship & they can work with you.

    Good Luck.

  5. Since Zef already answered the question, maybe the harbor cruise San Diego Bay, about $22 pp

  6. Some of them are actually free, you only have to pay the taxes per person and your flight. The only thing is, that you have to participate on a tour-type of timeshare thing. I actually spent the 4th of July of a couple of years ago in Gatlimburg that way, I only had to sit for an hour and half presentation. I was no obligated to buy nothing and I didn't. But for an less than 2 hours of my time I will do it again.

Bottom line, the same principle applies to cruises. Good luck!

  7. For the most part, I think Carnival is the way to go, especially if your whole family is going. There are lots of things to do for a wide variety of ages. Also, the little kids are pretty much contained and you don't have to see or hear much of any of them. I just got back from a 5 day out of Miami and it was very reasonable as well as extremely fun!!! Good luck with your planning!

    good luck.

  9. I have found that the web sites for Carnival and Royal Caribbean have listed specials that are great deals.  So just go to the cruise line web sites and click on the links to specials, or hot deals and you will see the discounted cruises.  You will need to be prepared to go when the specials are offered instead of on a firm date that you may have in mind, like a birthday, anniversary, or other special date.

The lowest priced cruises will always be for the inside cabins and you can often find these for less than $1,000. per person (usually around $700-800) for a 7 day cruise.  Also, if there are three or four of you going, the price for the 3rd and 4th persons in the same cabin is even lower.

For example, if mom and dad pick a cruise and cabin that's $900 for each of them, the cost for you and sister will likely be about $450 to $500 each.  So the total for 4 people in the same cabin might be just $2700.

And remember that once you pay that the only other costs will be for gratuities (tips) for the staff on ship; plus anything you buy on ship and/or off the ship.

  10. Good luck with that... Almost every site with cruise travel is the same price, except for maybe the late discounts. maybe.
