  1. they are so sweet them degu's i would check your local pet stores i know they slell the at mine or you could go to a breeder which will cost a bit more or you could look in your local paper good luck with finding one hope this helped

  2. we used to sell them at a petstore i worked at

  3. well i would check every pet store nearby, and the paper(s) but im not sure...lol

  4. First things first; Does your friend know that they are diabetic?

I'm sure she does, but I always have to ask that question to everyone, because so many people don't know how to take care of them. It's sad, really.

They are not hamsters, they are not chinchillas, they are not gerbils, etc, etc. They are different and need special care.   /endrant

Second of all, when introducing two male degus to each other that have not been with one another since they were born (even if they were together since birth, problems could still happen. I had to re-introduce 3 boys and their dad because of such problems), can be fairly difficult, depending on each of the goos. They could become best of friends in 5 days, or they could try and kill each other and then you're stuck with keeping them separated for their 8+ years of living.

Your friend has to be EXTREMELY careful. You can't just shove both of them in a cage and expect it all to be fine. You have to keep them separated, then a couple of times a day, give them a dust bath and put them in a neutral area (such as a bathtub). Let them sniff each other out, squabble a bit, and don't separate them when/if they begin to fight unless you see blood. They'll need to figure out who will be the alpha.

Again, it could take a few days, weeks, months, or maybe  /never/ for them to live together. It all depends on each degu.

Now, to answer your question, look for ones in shelters or try Craig's List, or things like that (local newspapers, etc), for people who may be needing to rehome theirs. Then I'd look at stores that sell them. :3

I live in Northeast  Illinois, and own 4 boys and 8 girls, but I'm too crazily bonded to my boys (Most of my goos just celebrated their 1st birthday on July 2nd), as they are to each other, otherwise I'd let your friend adopt one of my furbabies.

I'm not sure how far you are from Chicago, but there are several places there, and in the surrounding towns, that have degus.

Good luck, and hope your friend's goo gets a little buddy soon. ^-^

P.S.; If I am telling you stuff you and your friend already know, I'm sorry. xD But when someone mentions degus, I can go on and on and talk about them all day. They are wonderful little monsters, and I'm so glad I'm an owner or some...Errr, maybe they own me, but still. x3

  5. ive never seen them at any petstore, so go to a breeder, they will be a little more exspensive though
