I seem to only be approved for $500 limits and I want to get a credit card with at least a $5,000 limit. My credit score is between 600-620. I don't want one of those credit cards that you buy stuff just from them. I want a real credit card you can use anywhere. Thanks for any help.

  1. Hi there,

Credit card debt is a massive problem millions of people are facing at the moment and can really ruin your life. Repossessions are going through the roof because people cannot afford to live with the massive rises in the cost of living.

You really need to minimise your credit card debt and ideally get rid of it.

Firstly, consolidate your cards into one with a zero interest deal, if you can. Then get rid of all the others and start paying the one that is left off. It does mean you are going to have to cut back and live within your means, but that is no bad thing.

Paying off your credit card debt can take some time and will require discipline on your part but it can be done.

Hope that helps, but please let me know if you need any more info :)

  2. Try as hard as you can to get your score up to 720.  I know this sounds like an incredible feat, but you can do it. First, make every payment on time. Next, you must pay down your cards and keep them open without using them. Do not applying for any credit (it lowers your score a couple points every time, even department store looks.)  Once you have done all this for at least 6 months, and pending you are not receiving Score Alerts automatically, check your credit report for free (do not apply for credit to check it!) If you are still not close, then keep up the same system until you are over 720.

I am not advocating this, but I joined Scorewatch last December for 8.99 a month and have since raised my score 100 points.  I get frequent updates (sometimes 3-4 in one week) every time my score changes.  It's awesome to see a couple point change for the positive every few days or weeks (depending on when the companies report to the credit bureau.) I've just paid on time, paid more that the amount due and have not added additional debt on the cards.  It has been a slow process, but I consider it a fun, competive challenge.  Good luck.

  3. Well, unfortunately I don't think there is a good chance for that.  Moreover, you should probably stay away from high-credit-limit cards.
