I followed the lower rad hose and there appears to be a housing where the t-stat could be. Nothing on the top rad hose.

  1. On the new GM V8s the thermostat is located at the engine inline with the LOWER rad hose. The other answers that say its on the upper rad hose are incorrect

Older SBCs had them on the upper rad hose. Modern GM vehicles use a return water T-stat inline with the lower rad hose.

In response to Ralphie - 2000 is a newer vehicle. GM's been phasing this in  since the 90's on the newer engines.

  2. Follow the top rad hose back from the rad to the motor. Under the part(thermostat housing) that bolts to the motor is the thermostat.

  3. follow the top radiator hose, till it hits the block(the big thing in the engine bay) pull the hose off the block, remove thermostat, replace thermostat, put hose back, check waterlevel, drive, repeat in 75k miles

  4. Follow the upper radiator hose back to the engine and it is under that outlet with the 2 bolts.  Your question scares me, shouldn't somebody else be repairing your car?  In response to post just below mine, this is a 2000 not a newer vehicle.
