Question:

Does anyone know where to find environmentally-friendly carpet?

I would like to know of any specific vendor, store, or brand names of carpet that would be considered eco-friendly. I understand traditional carpet is definitely not considered green, but I am looking for the closest approximation to that "feel" but with the environment in mind. I think it might be important for the material to be bio-degradable, or able to be recycled, and made out of natural fibers. If you're aware of any traditional carpet alternatives that would be a good choice for the environmentally-conscious, please let me know - and the more specific the better, especially store names or something would help a lot. Thanks!

  1. Shaw Carpeting has a line of carpet that is eco friendly.  Their nylon based carpeting is made from recycled carpet and they are in the process of setting up recycling centers across the US to maintain this sustainability and reduce the amount consumers put in landfills.

  2. Call Lita Cox

    Interior Focus

    928-649-6009

She will hook you up...she's very into green materials.

  3. You should check out:  www.flor.com

  4. The main problem today is the fire-retardant regs...what you're looking for wouldn't be compliant.  Best to go with a hardwood floor or tile and some all natural rugs.

  5. You can still get 100% wool carpet backed with hessian - these would last absolutely years 20+, im not sure the manufacturing would be particularly ecological though.

I am just in the process of making a peg loom rug out of raw sheeps fleece - you can make these to whatever size you want so could be full room size.

Rag rugs would be the same - woven rags.

You can get proper felt underlay still too.

But dont know any specific manufacturers sorry.
