Question:

Does anyone know where to get maternity insurance if I am already pregnant?

This was not a planned pregnancy. I am 11 weeks pregnant and have paid out of pocket for my last two doctors visits. I will have a c-section since my first child was born through c-section. It is costly to pay out of pocket for this. My current insurance does not cover maternity care.

  1. How can it not cover it?  It's life!!  It happens...  anyway its REAL expensive out of pocket - by the time you're paid off the kid will be ready for college!  Try medicaid.

  2. Search health insurance on yahoo or google it.  There are several plans that you can apply for which will cover your maternity care.  You will have to pay about 150 or so a month and pay for your co-pay, but its about half the cost of what your out of pocket costs would be.  You can try filing for medicaid or medicare, but if you make too much you wont qualify.  Try talking to your HR rep and find out what you can do to up your insurance coverage during your pregnancy, if she doest know you can call and ask your insurnace company.  You may have to pay a little more towards it during your pregnancy, but that is better than paying out of pocket.  Your HR dept or your benefits dept has the key to this.  They should be able to up your limit.  If you have to quit your job and get cobra, they will cover it.  Though, once again, you will have to pay a monthly amount.  Then you can search for a job else where.

BTW - new insurance companies will cover you....pregnancy is not a pre-exisitng condition since it is short term.  And as long as you have had insurance previous to applying for new insurance, they should cover you at no charge.

  3. medicaid

  4. The answer may vary by person. It would be a good idea to hear some of them and try to choose the best one. Here is a good one.http://insurance.online-frees.info/insur...

  5. try medicaid...go to your local social services department and apply

  6. Some states have programs that cover uninsured women's delivery.  I think Illinois does, I don't know where you are from though.  If you have an existing insurance policy though, you can just get maternity coverage added to it, it will be expensive and I think they will only cover complications until you've had the coverage for 9 months.  I got a policy that covers maternity after 9 mths of having the policy and I asked the agent if I could get covered on anything related if I happened to get pregnant before then, he said complications would be covered.  I don't know if c-section is considered a complication, unless it is completely necessary... Call an agent.

  7. No insurance is going to cover you if you are already pregnant since it is a pre-existing condition.

Depending on your income, you can go through social services (I believe it is called title 19) and they will put you on medicaid if you qualify.

If not, then you just have to suck it up and start using protection when you don't want to be pregnant. It's a lot cheaper than a C-section.

  8. Medicaid , as long as you qualify.  You can apply online as well.  They also will back date your dr visits for 3 months.

    God Bless

  9. If your not married it should be pretty easy for you to get on on medicaid.  If you are then you may have to go to your health dept for your docs visits or planned parenthood b/c it will be cheaper!  I went thru this and I finally got medicaid at 18 weeks and I had to pay out of pocket for two ultrasounds prior to that!  I was def worried but just google maternity insurance and you should find soemthing!
