Call local homeless or battered women's shelters. The shelter I worked at greatly appreciated toys for the kids in shelter, as well as those who came in for services. A local Head Start Center may also have use for them.

All of the suggestions given are good ones...also look into pediatric hospitals.  Really, any nonprofit organizations would welcome a donation, it all depends on how you want your donation to be used in the long run.  I am the administrator of a literacy center, and we use donated toys in the nursery, or to sell on our quarter toss and take table - anything anyone wants from the table costs 25 cents.  This is a chance for families to get things that they need (Christmas and Birthday gifts, household items, etc) without breaking the bank and without the stigma attached to "handouts."  My point here is that ANY organization can find a use for donations.
