  1. No reputable parrot breeder is going to sell fertile eggs over the internet.

Anyone doing it is doing it for scam purposes.

First of all - nearly all parrot eggs look the same.

They can easily tell you a ringneck dove egg is a conure, amazon, timneh, etc., egg without you really being able to know the exact identity of the eggs you're buying.

Add to that the inherent disclaimer that "fertility can not be guaranteed on shipping eggs because the eggs can be jarred during shipping which can damage the embryo (which may or may not even be there)"

Compound this with the realization that a good, reputable breeder would NEVER sell eggs on the net.  Why? Because the breeder can have the pair hatch the eggs out, raise the birds by hand, and make nearly 5x as much as the "hatching eggs" sold on the internet (honestly, always scams IMHO).

Why would any right-minded parrot breeder sell a timneh egg for $50 when they can sell a weaned baby for $600+?

    Makes no sense.

Think about it - use common sense.

PS: Selling fowl eggs over the net is common - and there's a reason behind it; shipping these eggs is a legal, common practice.

The only common practice wrt to shipping parrots is shipping young birds via air from reputable buyers to reputable breeders.

Save your time and money; the only thing you'll ever really be able to purchase and keep your mind at ease in terms of hatching eggs are going to be of the poultry variety.

  2. While it's true that people selling fertile parrot eggs over the internet are scams, there is another reason why buying eggs from a parrot is VERY different then buying poultry eggs.

When fowl chicks hatch, they are what is called precocial.  You give them food and water in a bowl in front of them and even the most birdbrained turkey will eat in a day or so.  Parrots hatch completely helpless.  They can not see, they can not even stand.  They require handfeeding every two hours, round the clock, for the first few days.  After that you can go down to handfeeding of formula every few hours but you will be hand feeding a larger parrot literally MONTHS before they are weaned.  That's why parrots are so expensive, they are hard to breed (you can't just stick a male and female of most large parrot species together and expect eggs, let alone fertile ones) and time consuming to feed when they are neonates.

In addition, a parrot egg will not hatch in your standard hovabator. Their temperature and humidity need to be very precisely controlled.

We have both parrots and poultry.  I know once you have hatched out fowl you feel prepared for more exotic birds but they are very, very different in development.

  3. There is nowhere on the internet that you will be able to buy a fertile parrot egg. These are total scams...they are made for people that don't understand what bird breeding is about, and how hard it is to hatch out an egg. People see eggs for $30 each and think that they are getting a good deal because they are saving hundreds or thousands on a baby bird...but it doesn't make any sense. I breed as a hobby...I know several breeders of different species- no one has ever or would ever sell an egg. From the time an egg is laid a lot of work has to be put into making sure the little baby hatches out. Any breeder will tell you it is extremely hard to incubate eggs themselves- most don't do it unless it is a last resort. Parrot eggs have to be kept at a constant temperature and the hens flip them. Eclectus hens flip their eggs once an hour...and they do it precisley the way it has to be. An egg being shipped is going to be jostled around and not kept at the temp. it is supposed to be. These eggs are not like duck or chickens where you start to incubate them when you get them and turn them once every 12 hours. These eggs are so delicate that most breeders don't even like to handle their eggs to candle them...it's safer to candle them right in the nest.

Baby parrots are born blind, deaf and totally featherless. Parents feed them every 45 mins or every hour round the clock ,for the first 7 days. Then the down starts to form and you can start feeding every 3 hours. A lot of breeders do not like handfeeding from day one. Day one chicks should not even be handled...they are soooo tiny. You have to try to handfeed from a spoon so that you don't have to touch the baby. I wait to pull babies until at least 10 days when their eyes are close to opening. These are the reasons why breeders would never sell their eggs. The money thing is probably the real red flag here. If I can raise Eclectus babies and charge $800 per bird...why would I sell my eggs for $30? I wouldn't...and I bet anyone else out there that breeds would either.  Don't waste your money...but a handraised, tame loving baby from a breeder. It is worth all the money in the world.

  4. These are a scam. I dont care what anyone says!
