Does anyone know whether pie trays or cds are actually good to hang . . .?

Does anyone know whether pie trays or cds are actually good to hang in fruit trees to keep certain birds away from eating the fruit? Do they work?

I have heard they work, but I use rubber snakes that I bought at the dollar store and they work well.  I also bought netting at Walmart for 50 cents a yard and sew strips together for smaller trees.  You can make it as wide and long as you want...   I reuse them each year.
