  1. I had foster children a few years ago.  There are so many children whose parents are in jail.  They would love to know you and have you as a friend  (and almost as a mom).  See if you can contact Child Protective Services in your town. /

  2. Heyy Chicka!!

Thanks for thinking of others! Actually yesterday I saw this commercial for PlanUSA.org, where you pay $22 a month and can sponsor a child with your choosing of age, gender, and where they live. The commercial said all the money goes to the child for food, clean water, medicine, health clinics, schools, and mosquito nets. The commercial had this 2-minute documentary about this boy called Alex whose parents were both gone and had to take care of his 4 younger brothers. I started to cry. I am also going to sponsor a child and looking through my options, but so far this is the best.

Hope I Helped and, Thank You!!!

  3. I was an aid worker in Mali for a couple of years and one thing that stuck with me was a shop owner asking me to translate a letter for him.  It was coincidentally from a woman who lived in my home town and had decided to sponser a child through world vision.  She had written a wonderful letter describing herself etc.  The shop owner did have some kids, but I'm pretty sure the money she sent, that he got from his mates at World Vision went to the brand new TV in his yard.

Sometimes the money gets where its supposed to go and still doesn't get used for the right things.  I personally think it is better to give to charities like http://www.heifer.org/ which gives out training and livestock and encourages people to give the offspring of the livestock on to others in the village, or www.kiva.org which lends money to people and gives them help making a business that works, so they can repay it and feel like they are standing on their own two feet. (Plus, when they repay the money, you can give it to another person or group).  Both charities give lots of feedback on how the people who receive your gift/loan are doing.

P.S. Good on you for not only wanting to give back to the world, but wanting to do it right.
