Does anyone know why I-485 in Charlotte NC was so backed up today betwn the Matthews and Providence Rd exits?

It depends when you encountered the problem.  According to NCDOT, at Mile Marker 67 on the Inner Loop near I-77 there was a wreck with an overturned vehicle that caused the ramp to be closed  on 3/25/2008  from 7:55 to 9:24 PM with a High impact to traffic.  Crews have been in that area all week with maintenance activities during the day.  They closed road shoulders to pick up litter, clear brush and trees and maintain plant beds in the area.  NCDOT thought those would have a Low impact to traffic.
