The bulbs hardly last two weeks. they are 40watt(which is what it says to use). I put a new bulb in last night and it has already went out.

  1. well  my light has never gone out in the 8 something years so i woulnt leave that light on buy its self... it could have a short in it somewhere. If its new i would try to return it, and if its old, mabye its time for a new one.

  2. Agree with Tomcat. Does the base of the bad bulb look ok when you take it out?  Some of the cheaper ones don't have much lead on the center contact.

  3. idk

  4. I'd try a 40 watt appliance bulb.

  5. Sounds like there could be a short, which could be dangerous.

I won't put another bulb in it until you have the wiring checked.

Usually when something electrical malfunctions it is a safety feature.

It is also possible that you have it in a location that is making it overheat. ( see article about the results of this : http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/2016... )

Either way I would NOT keep putting new bulbs in it until you have someone check it out.

You could easily start an electrical fire if the lamp is defective ( or just old and worn out)

Never leave a Lava Lamp on for more than a few hours at a time!

Always keep it on a level surface, away from any heat source and make sure there is plenty of airflow around it.

If it's a New lava lamp send it back to the manufacturer ( or call their 1-800 customer service)  or take it back from where you bought it.
