Why do drivers do a

honk honk, honk honk honk, HONK HONK. when they are driving in their cars?

I hear it quite often and dont know what it means. Is it someone being silly? If so where did this pattern come from? Is it a tune or something?

Do you do it? If so what situations would you do it in?
