Does anyone know why greenland is icyer than iceland?

  1. Iceland has thousands of geothermal springs, geysers, mudpots,etc. that keep large areas warm even in the winter. Greenland is covered with glaciers and ice shelves from the last ice age. The names have nothing to do with the geography.


  2. I think it is because of the Labrador current flowing on the eastern side of the continent where as gulf stream flows around the Iceland.

  3. In addition to the geothermal springs and ocean currents, Greenland is a much larger land mass than Iceland, and is farther North.  The water has much less moderating effect on Greenland than Iceland.
