It's a condition called "pica" and is basicall the craving of something "odd", I guess. I've heard of women who crave petrol/gas!

Pregnancy causes massive changes in the mother's body, especially with the hormones.  This sends many women off their heads, and they get cravings for strange foods or start to act in an extreme manner.  It is the same thing which causes women in New York and California to try eating the placenta.

Like Mo said.  My wife had the urge to eat cigarette ash.  Thankfully she resisted.  Beans & Vanilla slices too.
