Does anyone know why my cat might being meowing strangely?

Question

First of all, the vet's office is closed on mon. or else I would have called them first. Second, my cat has always been very vocal. He always meows a lot, usually because there's something he wants. Lately, he's been meowing deep, and it sounds almost sad. It reminds me of a sad wolf's howl. However, he's been eating fine, playing fine, and using the bathroom regularly. He's an indoor cat, and as far as I can see, there are no other symptoms. Should I be worried? Is there a reason why he would be doing this?

Are you paying enough attention to him? Have you started doing something differently? He might just want your attention back, or... there's the possibility he might be in pain, which I hope won't be the case.

your cats probly in heat...alot of cats do this so dont worry because my neighbors cat is always outside my window at night meowing like that. It sounds like hes saying "owww"  or something like that so basically ur cat wants to get busy with another cat...theres nothing wrong with him

Sounds like your little kitty is in heat!  Watch out when cats are in heat they spray to mark there terrirtory!!  Take him to the vet to get fixed or he'll start running out of the house to mate.

Has he been neutered?  He could be feeling frisky, before my cat was neutered he had a meow that sounds like what you're describing.

My cat will do that to for no particular reason also.  Is he neutered?  Is there a female in heat somewhere inside or outside?  Is there something that is outside that he can see from the window?  

Sometimes cats just....well... "sing".  Unless he is showing other signs of illness or injury, I think he's fine.  You covered all the questions I would ask my patients owners, and I think you'll just have to sing along with him until he decides to stop.

cats do this when upset or in pain or discomfort.

try giving him some kitty milk to se if he readily accepts, and thorooughly check him over for physical signs of illness. if he was very badly hurt or ill chances are hed be hiding, so he can wait til tomoro to see vet.

it could be missing your fiance, as cats, athough solitary, will send out sorrowful calls to call each other.

Kinda sounds like he's lonley, maybe in pain too.  My cat always meows deep like a "howl" when she wants to see me, or wants attention.  He meow changes when she sees me.

is your cat fixed? sometimes they do that when they are ready to mate.
