  1. well it's always good to do a pre warm up before you run. Start by always stretching your legs, pulling your legs back, touching your toes etc.... this will help losen up those muscles in that area and not make them so tight when you are running. When they are tight they will tend to have to work a lot harder to get lose and ready for running. Try doing warm ups and start by slowly jogging in place and then try and do a run..

  2. it is either inflamation or a muscle tightness.  it is caused by over-use.  it might be your achillies tendon or arthritis (depending on your age) but i doubt it. i'd say it is inflamation and what i would do to knock it out is ice it, and then take a bath or something.  keep your diet, and try using icyhot patches or bengay to warm it up.

  3. Maybe its yuor shoes.  Also dont tie them too tight, that can cause problems.  Shins and calves can be problematic sometimes, so do calve raises and shin raises to strengthen.

  4. I think its your shoes.....try wearing New Balance shoes

  5. I had this same problem years ago when I ran XC and track in high school.  Now, I'm not a doctor, but I'm guessing you have short achilles tendons.  Arch supports are not going to help this, what you need to do is "lift" your heel to "lengthen" your achilles tendon.  I used to get a sorbothane heel lift/support, and I just googled it and they are still readily available.

    google Sorbothane Heel Pad

don't stop with the extra potassium and maybe add some magnesium, just be aware of dosage requirements..

    Hope that helps....Good Luck

Please take my answer into consideration....I went through EXACTLY what you are describing years ago......

  6. they just need some time to get as strong as your other muscles

  7. Nikes aren't the best for running. Try Brooks or Saucony with lots of cushioning.

  8. Maybe when you run, you are putting to much stress on your ankles from your impact with the ground. Try putting some shock absorbing soles in your shoes, that might help.

  9. it sounds like problems with your achilles, more like achilles Peritenonitis to be more specific. Arch supports will only work if it is the proper kind and they won't help get rid of the problem, they will only help to prevent the problem (you will have to go to a podiatrist to get the correct kind. the only thing that can help at this point in time is a really long break from running and the proper stretching. (see emedicine link)

Keep eating your well balanced diet, that will help it heal quicker.

Getting in the pool is a great way to stay in shape and let your injuries heal. I ruptured a nerve in my ankle and strained my achilles a few summers ago (not a fun injury) and I went aqua jogging 6 days a week for 9 weeks and I think I was in better shape that before I stopped running. Good luck and I would say that if you don't feel better in 2 weeks go see a Dr.
