  1. both had been trainning bad.....so they waited until they both were 100%

  2. While it is unknown for certain, the popular belief is that Seabuscuit was a scratch because of diminished performance and possible injury during a workout four days prior.

Edit: To dispute another responder's claims, on May 24, 1938, the Belmont race was called off because of a Seabiscuit scratch.  The eventual match race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral was run at Pimlico.

  3. Seabiscuit was sick and War Admiral was injured. Both parties waited till the last minute to cancel. Howard Seabiscuit's owner scratched first, but both had very slow workouts that hinted that both horses were not doing so well. Read Laura Hillenbrand's book Seabiscuit an American Legend.

  4. The match race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral was orginally set for May 30th, 1938 at Belmont Park but Charles Howard scratched Seabiscuit from the race on May 24th, a week before the match race was to be held because of a diminished performance and a possible injury.  The match race was then rescheduled for November 1, 1938 at Pimlico Race Course where the match race did take place.

  5. They did race and seabiscut won

  6. As far as I know, it wasn't cancelled- they ran the race, which Seabiscuit won easily. Read your history, please !!!
