I am a big fan of Sailor Moon, but I watched it on Saturday mornings. I was wondering why they took it off tv. I have heard that there was a scary episode, and so they had to take it off. But I also heard that there were some episodes that they didn't dub for some reason. But I've been hearing that the Star series will be dubbed soon. So I was wonering when they were gonna dub them?

  1. I heard that they took Sailor Moon off TV because the American company lost the rights to show it a few years ago, when the Japanese company that made Sailor Moon decided to stop renewing all foreign rights to air the show.  And yes, there were seven episodes among the first two seasons of Sailor Moon that weren't dubbed because of differences between the countries/cultures about what is and isn't acceptable for this type of show.  And I highly doubt that Sailor Stars is ever going to be professionally dubbed, because Sailor Moon is now considered an old show by some, and because there are three characters in Sailor Stars who are men in human form but transform to women in sailor soldier form.

  2. The english dubbed version of Sailor Moon stopped being aired because DIC entertainment(the TV production company in NA owning the rights to air SM) lost the rights to SM after the due period of time. And maybe as Sailor Moon has been tagged with an adjective "backdated" :( ,they didn't bother to renew the license. The original television production company in Japan owning all the legal rights to Sailor Moon(the anime),known as the TOEI Animation, got involved in a dispute with Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of the SM manga. Naoko Takeuchi was the one who actually originated the character Sailor Moon(along with the manga SailorV),got depressed with TOEI's behaviour and instantly cut off all the relationships between her and TOEI. And to the despair of every obssessed Sailor Moon fan out there, her action caused TOEI to lose all the rights to SM,thus strictly prohibiting them from airing the Sailor Moon episodes in TV anymore. Lots of SM fans have later tried to persuade her by sending numerous emails, letters to her address, but she sticks to her decision still now. Thus, although one of the hardest facts to accept,Sailor Moon is not going to be aired in tv anymore. :(

And Sailor Stars has never been dubbed in English because the DIC authorities had no clue how to explain the L*****n relationship between Usagi and Seiya. They got away with Haruka and Michiru's relationship by stating that they were cousins, but couldn't find a way to describe the scene where Seiya, out of emotion, suddenly kisses Usagi. So,I guess, the prejudice about the lesbians became a bar to the process of dubbing. :P

But if you wanna re-watch Sailor Moon, here's a fine place that has all the Sailor Moon episodes including Sailor Stars and the SM movies.

  4. I got over Sailor Moon but I know where to watch it. I think they took it off because the ratings went down or they decided to put a new show in it's place. I think that Sailor Star is going to get dubbed, l don't know when though. Here's some links to Sailor Moon and Sailor Star:

  6. The English adaptation of Sailor Moon was produced in an attempt to capitalize on the success of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. After a bidding war between Toon Makers, who wanted to produce a half live-action and half American-style cartoon version, and DiC Entertainment, DiC (which at the time was owned by The Walt Disney Company) acquired the rights to the first two seasons of Sailor Moon, of which they cut six episodes and merged two. The remaining episodes were each cut by several minutes to make room for more commercials, to censor plot points or visuals deemed inappropriate for children, and to allow the insertion of "educational" segments called "Sailor Says" at the end of each episode.

The English adaptations by Optimum Productions for Cloverway of Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon Supers (the third and fourth series) stayed relatively close to the original Japanese versions, and no episodes were skipped or merged. Some controversial changes were made, however, such as the depiction of Sailors Uranus and Neptune as cousins rather than lovers.

The fifth and final series, Sailor Stars, has never been licensed for adaptation into English. As of May 2004, the rest of the metaseries has officially gone off the air in all English-speaking countries due to lapsed licenses which have not been renewed.

The manga was translated into English in 1997 by manga publisher Mixx (now renamed Tokyopop). The manga was initially syndicated in MixxZine but was later pulled out of that magazine and moved into a secondary magazine called "SMILE." The US comic was released as three series: Sailor Moon, which collects the first three arcs (the Dark Kingdom, Black Moon, and Infinity arcs), Sailor Moon Super S, which collects the Supers arc, and Sailor Moon Stars, which collects the Sailor Stars arc. They feature all of the content from the original manga collections (though the names of characters introduced in the first two story arcs were changed to those used in the English anime), as well as the occasional new sketch and "thank you" commentary from the series' creator.

As of May 2005, Tokyopop's license to the Sailor Moon manga has lapsed, and the English-language manga is out of print

  7. They never dubbed/ will dub the Sailor Star series because it had 'adult themes' and wasn't appropriate for child t.v.
