I resigned from my job in Malaysia but my Employment Pass haven't cancelled yet. How to cancel my PCB Income tax? They want me to go there personally and cancel it, but I have no time..Is it okay if only my employer will cancel even if I'm not going there personally? Is it refundable, the tax? Thanks for your advice, I need it asap.

  1. Basically,

Your employer is required to report to the tax office (LHDN) that you have ceased employment with them, witholding your last month's pay....You will then be accessed on your tax liability and your employer informed accordingly.....Providing that your PCB has been done correctly, it is unlikely that you will have any tax refund, but after you are cleared, your employer will pay to you your last month's pay (which was witheld) or any balance thereof.   If you have left the country by then,  you need to have made some arrangements with your employer.....Normally, you do not need to go personally to the tax office to report your ceasation of employment, but a formal letter to inform them, providing the particulars of your situation, is advisible.  This is also for your own records.

After you are back to your own country and in new employment, you can then enquire about "double taxation relief" or if that applies to you...(that is one way of getting the refund of tax paid in Malaysia).

  2. Well Carol, I can speak from experience having been there and done that etc and 2 years after leaving Malaysia I was still being fined left, right and centre by every Tom, d**k and Harry.

So my advice too you is to get it sorted out ASAP if you want to save a bucket full of money (Get in touch with your former employer and sort it out cepatlah)
