  1. Best left to a Pro.  Take it to a shop.

  2. First of all - It is a violation of Federal Law to discharge the freon from an Air Conditioner into the atmosphere due to the negative impact on the ozone which protects all life on earth from excessive solar radiation.

Next, the system must be properly evacuated before the freon can be refilled ( A Refrigerant Recovery and Service Machine is required, in addition to the knowledge of how to use it ).

R&R of the compressor is fairly straight forward, requiring a variety of (Metric) sockets and extensions to reach the mounting bolts and refrigerant lines. You may (if you wish to perform the actual R&R yourself ) take the vehicle to a A/C service facility and have the refrigerant recovered and stored,  Then you change the compressor and go back to have the evacuation and recharge performed.  Many A/C shops will perform this service for a fee similar to the fee they charge for routine check over and top off of the freon, But unless the compressor R&R is unusually involved on this model your cost savings on changing the compressor yourself are not going to be that great and in the event they discover that you have not properly sealed the system the additional charges to fix any leaks may wipe out any savings, If they change the compressor, and an "O" ring rolls out of place during final assembly forcing them to take it back apart to replace the "O" ring it will be covered as part of the quoted repair cost.  If you change the compressor and the same thing happens, even if you repair the "O" ring, the shop will have the right to charge you an additional service fee for attempting to charge the system and locating the leak.

A/C work is touchy and more complicated than it appears on the surface - that is why all A/C techs have either taken about a 1 to 3 month long course on A/C service or been apprenticed to a Senior Technician for several months before working on their own.

Your best bet ... Get 3 or 4 estimates and choose one of the middle ones to do the repair.
