Question:

Does anyone like jury duty?

Every time someone gets called for jury duty they act like its the worst thing in the world and the biggest waste of time. I am just as busy, if not busier than anyone else... but I happen to think it is an honor to be able to participate in government in that way. Does anyone agree with me?

  1. I was on 2 juries and foreman for one. I say it is a waste of time. The questions that need asked and answered never arise.

  2. We're retired.  We both love it.

I can see those in a tight financial situation complaining, they don't get paid the amount of wages they make per day if they were at work.

  3. It's boring and the hardest part is trying to keep awake but I didn't dislike it.

  4. i've had ajury picked for me before-they are cool people to show up and maybe get some entertainment? i'd say 3 of 12 fell asleep everyday.

  5. I agree with you.  I've only been called once so far but I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was very interesting.

  6. It can actually be fun.  I was on an attempted murder trial and it made for interesting conversation after my stint in jury duty was over.

  7. I've only been called once and I got out of it because I was away at college but they told be I would probably be called again soon. That was three years ago. I think I would really like jury duty.

  8. I absolutely agree with you!  Thank you thank you for taking this view - it is indeed an honor to participate in government.

  9. Generally, yes.  The pay is pitiful, the process tedious, and the possible results not always very interesting.  However, it's a civic duty, some employers will offer full pay for that day regardless, and I find it quite important to play my part in maintaining judicial principles.

If you have a genuine reason that you cannot (not just do not want to, but would cause you real hardships at the time), there are ways to postpone this without trying to escape entirely.

I can't say that I'd be sure to like it the entire time, but I'd understand it as my civic duty nonetheless.  It's one of the societal contributions we owe.

  10. no it can be really boring sometimes but they pay you to do it so that's some quick money haha

  11. I've served twice on juries.  One was a civil suit, which was interesting to watch.  More interesting since my wife and I are now plaintiffs in an injury case being fought by an insurance company.

The other case was a nasty criminal trial for robbery, attempted rape, crime against nature, and assault.  The assailant was drunker than a skunk (which is why only ATTEMPTED rape - he couldn't get it up).  So drunk he dropped his wallet out of his pants and didn't pick it up again.  Folks who are THAT stupid desperately need to be off the streets before they hurt themselves, much less others.

I almost served on a case where we would have heard about a lurid kidnapping and sexual assault of a guy trying to hook up with his ex-wife.  But it didn't happen.  Just because we had enough members in the jury pool, we were guaranteed to go to trail on it.  The guy's lawyer asked many provocative questions to try to exclude the entire jury pool but he could not do so.  We broke for lunch with over half the jury picked and nearly half of the voix dire pool remaining.  When we came back, we were dismissed.  Per the bailiff, the guy realized the trial WAS going to happen and he was going to get shipped up the river, so he copped a plea.

In all cases, I was glad to be there.  I felt as though I had done something useful just by being at the right place at the right time.

  12. I do to I think its a great thing and i cant wait untill i can go to jury duty  cause you can feel like you contributed something to this country, and feel so proud of yourself i glad you feel this way about it
