The only ones I can find are origionals, non-firing replicas or that 4 shot piece of c**p kit by classic arms!

Do you know anywhere that sells functional pepperboxes that are already asembeled?

(The origionals are to expensive, plus I wouldn't want them to rust from powder residue!)

  1. I don't know if they still do so, but CVA used to market a five- or six-shot .36 caliber pepperbox.  IIRC, it was a manually turned pepperbox rather than a double-action.  It has been a long, long time since I handled one so I don't remember for certain,

  2. You can buy one in kit form from Dixie Gun Works in Union City, TN.  Their website is www.dixiegunworks.com.  It is an Ethan Allen .36 caliber.  The catalog number is PH1400 and the price is $95.  The skill level is 1 which is the easiest level.  It appears to need only assembly and finishing.  I imagine the grips would need sanding and some oil finish.  The metal will likely need to be blued and the brass polished.  You can do this with one of the cold blues available from Dixie.

If this does not work for you, try C.W. Slagle Antiques, Pepperbox Pistols.  They range from $1,100.00 for a Stocking & Co. Single Action Percussion Pepperbox with Shield and Spur Trigger Bow to $8,250.00 for a Rare “Pecare & Smith” Ten Shot Folding Trigger Pepperbox With Low Serial Number and Steel Frame.

  4. Landherm and CIH are right. Dixie gun works has them. And they may say skill level 1 but some of them are a real pain to get to work. The reason is some have a weak hammer spring that lacks the power to set off the percussion caps. I just ordered a stronger spring from Dixie Gun works and it worked fine.

Figure on a lot of sanding to make it look good. I used different grades of emery cloth and steel wool and spent hours sanding. But it turned out nice. Wish I hadn’t traded it off now, it was fun.
