Does anyone make a "free and clear" laundry detergent that includes bleach alternative?

Or is that the whole point of free and clear, that they don't have extras like bleach alternative included? If not, can anyone suggest a gentle, biodegradable, eco-friendly detergent that disinfects as well as using bleach or bleach alternative? What do you think of Borax? (We wash almost exclusively in cold water.)

  1. tide does !

  2. I think Borax is used in addition to detergent..

Tide free has no perfume or dye, but I don't think they make it with the bleach alternative, nor do any of the other brands.

I can remember my grandmother adding a cup of white vinegar to the last rinse cycle in place of fabric softener and she swore it made the whites whiter and the colors brighter.

I have reverted back to it, along with ading baking soda to the wash cycle in an effort to cut down on the various products in my kids laundry.  Since I have been using Tide free, the baking soda and vinegar none of us have had any of the allergic recations were used to regularly suffer.

  3. I don't know where you are but Pathmark sells a store brand free and clear laundry detergent that's phosphate-free.  It's cost effective and it's the only detergent I use.

Borax is a laundry booster but it may not dissolve completely in cold water.  I suggest a scoop of baking soda to the wash water.  It'll do the same thing.
