  1. You have it back wards.  Its keep your enemies close, but your friends closer.

    And yeah.  What it means, is that you may expect your enemies to pull crazy c**p, but you never expect your friends to do it, in fact, most people get completly blind-sided when their friends do it.  Its just a reminder to always keep your eyes open for whats going on around you.  If you know your friend has a habit of telling secrets and gossiping, doesnt mean that they wont do it to you because you are their friend. A gossip is a gossip, being your friend doesnt change that.


  2. It's the right way and it was said by Sun-tzu a Chinese general & military strategist around 400 BC.

    And the thought is that it's a good idea to keep an eye on your enemies and what they are up to since, logically, you have already made sure that you can trust your friends.

    That said...

    To answer the actual question. No. Most of all because I don't have enemies. I do keep up with the activities of people that I have a problem with to make sure that they don't cause me any more grief though.
