My 7 yrs old daughter has seizures and i took her for a check up thursday, and i asked the doctor for a referral because her medicine is not working the way it should be and besides she needs to see a pediatric nurologist anyways. THe doctor said that there is a 8 - 12 month wait list, is there any other way to go around this...especially if she needs medical attention now? Please Help me if you can.

  1. WTF?! Do you live in America?  Next time she seizes, take her to the emergency room of a children's hospital.  They should have pediatric neurologists who they can at least refer you to if they don't have any on staff.  That is really ridiculous and not ethical.

Why is there a waiting list and do you NEED the referral or can you just find a pediatric neurologist yourself?

  2. Not many people know this, but you can actually call and ask for an appointment yourself. Especially if you call a Neurologist in a teaching hospital, like Cleveland Clinic, or NIH. I was in extreme pain and my doctor kept telling me it was muscle spasms, so I called Cleveland Clinic and got an appointment, to find out what was wrong. They saw me, diagnosed me as having an efferent loop obstruction and did the operation and changed my life for the better. Look up a good teaching hospital on the internet, and go to the page that gives you a number to call for appointment and call it. A Doctor who says there is a 8 to 12 month wait list, and does not call is not going to get you in any sooner by not calling.  Sounds like he just does not want to lose the patient.

  3. go to the ER instead of your doctor, they will get you an emergency appointment with in two days. If that fails tell them she has double vision. She'll get right in. Make sure when you get to nurologist you tell them she no longer has the double vision.

  4. go to the hospital er  and explain

  5. I would call the neurologist office and make yourself available if someone cancels. I would bring her into emergency every time she has a seizure and ask the Dr. to contact the neurologist.  If her condition does not stabilize or gets worse make everyone aware of that.  Drs. usually have open slots in there schedule for urgent cases, so be persistant.
