Question:

Does anyone operate a small daycare center? how many kids? what size building?

im looking to open a daycare , either a group daycare for 12 to 15 or a small center with 22. preschool only. what do u pay for renting your bldg? do you operate out of a house? any suggestions are appreciated

  1. In England we have to adhere to the ratios set by Ofsted (www.ofsted.gov.uk) within the Nation Standards. All staff must now be qualified and CRB checked then the ratio is: 1 adult to 8 children (age 3's), 1:4 (2-3yrs), 1:3 for under 2's (I think-i havent got my book infront of me at moment).

    The amount of children per session depends on the size of your room and the facilities (how many toilets, outdoor space, indoor space etc).

    As for rent-we pay £100 per term for one room, a small playground and use of shared toilets (5 toilets + sinks)...this includes lighting and heating. Many places pay more though--esp if they are all day settings. We operate from a school classroom. It's not a huge size so we are allowed 20 children per session.
