If I let my kids out at night and they crapped in your garden and tortured and mortally injured whatever small creatures they could find you would have me up in court. How come its OK for cats to do this???

  1. My cats used to be indoor/outdoor cats until a nearby open space was restored and coyotes came into the picture.  They stayed in the yard for the most part, except for 1 cat who had been adopted as a stray and was known by all the neighbors.  We would check periodically to see if there were any problems.  No one ever complained.

Years later a young couple moved in next door.  They had several dogs, including a pit bull who would eat through fence if you were standing nearby on the other side.  Nothing I could do about it until he got into my yard, and we began to keep a bat handy just in case, but he was put down either due to age or by court order.  In any case they've got 2 rat dogs who jump the short front wall and terrorize people walking their dogs, who then think the dogs are ours.  They've been reported, things improve for awhile, then back to jumping the wall. The couple often has roommates, and the latest has 2 cats who frequent my yard and the neighbor beyond.  I used to feed the birds but don't anymore.  And I've bought additional rocks to provide more cover for the lizards I may still have in the yard.

But I don't hate the cats, or the dogs.  I'm not fond of their owners, however, who are not the responsible, good neighbors we would like them to be.

Our current dog is an older rescue dog, and lately I've started to think about getting a 2nd dog and fencing the front yard. It would give my dog a companion, and I'm guessing their pets would stop visiting for the most part.  The other neighbor has also recently gotten a puppy, who will be spending more time outside as it gets older, so the cat visits may decline.

We also bought a product made from coyote urine, and will be putting it out this weekend.  I'm hoping it's money well spent.

  2. you have to understand that all animals below humans dont rationalize anything. they operate on instinct. you may not like them, but they are part of the natural world, just like humans and all other creatures on this planet. as for cats decimating wildlife, i have yet to see a siamese or tabby cat take down a deer, let alone decimate any animal population.

  3. I hate what cats can do to the bird population and the unpleasant scents they can leave in the garden where I dig with my bare hands.  But it's not the cat's fault, it's the fault of the owner.  Again, it may be because the owner was raised to think cats need to be outdoors, so a bit of education may be needed.

We recently had a problem with new neighbors moving in and allowing their 3 cats to roam.  After seeing 2 dead birds  (not to mention how many were carried off since they don't kill to eat, only as instinct), my husband talked to the neighbor about the problem and suggested a collar with a bell be placed on them.

I told him immediately that those collars don't work and he saw for himself a week later as the cat walked past our porch without a sound although he did have a collar and bell.

After 3 more dead birds in less than 3 weeks, we decided a kind letter should be written and some information be attached to educate the owner.  This is some of the info that was given:

    http://www.thenatureinus.com/2008/07/mak...

    http://cats.about.com/od/indoorsvsoutdoo...

The problem stopped and I haven't seen any of the 3 cats and neither has another neighbor that was bothered by it also.

Admittedly, they don't wave to my husband any more while on his morning walk, but that's not our problem.  We did not write a nasty letter.  We would've called but two phone calls had not been returned previously when their cat was lost, so we didn't think phone calls were a way to communicate.

Sometimes it's hard to see people favorably when they are opposite of the way we see things ... but hate is a strong emotion and it doesn't affect what is hated as much as it affected the one hating, so I always seek a better solution to the problem.

  4. nope,i love mine....

  5. Nope i have a Cat and two Dogs and Cats are as enjoyable as dogs...

  6. Don't hate the animals, instead be angry toward pet owners that don't spay or neuter their animals.  This is just another example of misplaced blame.  Animals live by instinct, people seem to live by ignorance.

  7. I WUV KITTYS AND THEY WULL EAT YOU

    YOU BADBAD MAN

  8. I think its because cats & other animals are not recognised as sentient beings like Humans. Humans have a sense called common, which we seem to be using less & less these days.

Animals are not classified as sentient, thats why we Humans continue to torture them & test our products & drugs on them.

  9. Are you daft?  Cats are just animals.  The word 'domestic' is the key here----you need to 'hate' people who don't keep their cats inside.  Letting cats out to c**p in your yard and decimate wildlife is the fault of irresponsible owners---not cats.

Time for you to wake up and place the blame where it belongs.

  10. Yes, all cat owners should attach a bell to their pet, preferably a church bell.

  11. yeah me, there dirty furballs

  12. Yeah I have a friend who hates cats (and I don't use that word lightly).  He calls them invasive animals - he thinks cats and dogs are a luxury that people have become "entitled" to without realizing their full effects.  He also thinks wild horses are the same ... When I saw this question I almost thought it could be him with your disdain for the furry little creatures!

  13. Yes. But there are effective ways of dealing with them......permanently.

  14. Cats are essentially wild animals that share our homes. I notice that they don't plunk down their homes in the middle of prime wildlife habitat or build roads to cut it into blocks that are too small to maintain a population of many species.

Perhaps you would prefer that we remove the feline control on rat and mouse populations and let THEM brred to the new carrying capacity.

I believe that the difference between "cat people" and "dog people" is psychological. Why don't you discuss it with your psychiatrist during your next session?

  15. cats can be mean if they were abused but people and other animals get mean if something happens to them i love cats and all animals and i even like the mean ones that try to attack you.

i think you ought to give everything a chance seriouslly.

the only people i think that should "hate" cats is people who are allergic to them but i have a friend that is allergic and has 5 of them because she loves them so much.

    GIVE THEM A CHACE GEEZE!

  16. Does anyone out there hate those environmental decimating pests called HUMANS as much as I do??

  17. Ouch. Why do you hate them?.. I do have a pet cat. I sometimes get mad at him because he steals our food. But I always forgive him because he doesn't have the brains which humans have. :)

  18. the only good cat is a dead one
