AFLAC IS A SECONDARY INSURANCE PLAN THAT YOU CAN USE IF YOU ARE OUT ON MEDICAL LEAVE. I PURCHASED MINE IN SEPTEMBER 2007. AND I WENT TO THE EYE DOCTOR TO GET MY ANNUAL CHECK UP. SO MY EYE DOCTOR PUT ME ON DISABILITY AND I FILED MY CLAIM WITH AFLAC. THEY DENIED ME BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT IT WAS PRE EXISTING. I WAS DIANOISED WITH COMBINED CATARACTS IN APRIL 2007. WHEN I SIGNED UP WITH AFLAC THE REP DID NOT TELL ANYONE IN OUR OFFICE THAT THEY DON'T PAY OUT FOR PRE EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS. IWANT TO APPEAL THIS. WHAT CAN I PUT IN MY APPEAL LETTER TO GET MY DIABILITY BENEFITS PAID. I HAVE BEEN OFF WORK SINCE MAY. MY SURGERY IS SCHEDULED MID AUGUST 2008. I NEED SOME HELP

  1. You need to get a copy of the actual policy/contract you signed up for.  If you do not have a copy they will be able to send you one.  Chances are very good has a clause agianst pre-existing conditions.

It is your responsability to review the policy before signing up, whatever the agent told you or did not tell you makes no difference, what is in the policy is what matters.

Now, you didn't say why you were put on disability.  Was it solely because of the cataracts?  If so, chances are there is not much you can do.  If there was another reason or a new condition that progressed the cataracs then you would be able to fight it.

  2. Most insurance companies will not pay for any pre-existing  medical problems and they don't tell you that up front, but its usually written in the fine print on the policy or somewhere in their guidlines.  If the problem is truly pre-existing there isn't much you can do.  If you Doctor says that its a new condition not caused by the pre-existing diagnosis then you can appeal, you will need documentation from the Doctor

  3. Try asking in the computer section on how to fix that caps lock.  That's not an easy read.
