Does anyone out there know about car stuff?

I have this friend who hasn't paid his car payment in almost two years. He has it sitting somewhere the repo man will never find it. He thinks that it is o.k. to go and re-register the car and get a tag and title because the bill collectors and everyone else stopped calling about the car for about 8 months now. I'm trying to tell him that it will not be a good idea to do that because I think that at the tax collectors office the vehicle may or will come up as stolen when they pull up the information. He's one of those people who think they know everything. If anyone out there know anything about this, please holla back. Thanks.

  1. It may be in his possession physically but legally, it is no longer his car.  If/when it is found, he could be arrested for auto theft

  2. being dishonest is ALWAYS the wrong path to take when a storm comes, cause it will get VERY muddy..........

your friend should do whats right and give the bank their car back if he is unable to fulfill his obligations to pay.  being in debt and falling on hard times and not able to met that debt is one thing, but trying to steal something that don't belong to you, rightfully, makes your friend a thief, and in the long run, the bank will sue him and add all that interest on top of the balance just because he try to deceive them......

i would break off my friendship with any friend that would do this.....

so, yes, he will have to give it up sooner or later........i hope it's sooner...

  3. to register it, he needs an address.

The collectors will go to the address where the title is registered to  and plus, it has probably been reported as stolen, so watch out from the popo when they come knocking on his door

  4. if the car has been repo he has no rights to the car now. He mostly will be taken to small claims court for the rest of the money that is owed.

  5. Yeah he is asking for big problems. He will not be able to register the car and it is likely he will be arrested while at the DMV (I have yet to go t a DMV and not see a Highway Patrol officer there). The bank owns the car and can and most likely already has reported the car stolen. I mean what’s the point in having a car if you can never drive it. The fact of the matter is, he will not be able to register it because he no longer owns it. I am also surprised that the bank has not taken other legal action against him on this issue. Best thing for him to do at this point is just turn the car over and cut his losses. He will still need to pay some hefty fines. I have seen cases like this to where the problem transpires in to an arrest warrant being issues for the person. So it all comes down to how much money he wants to pay and rather or not he is willing to spend some time in jail. Not to mention his credit will be completely hosed for the next 7 to 10 years.  Just some things to consider.

  6. Soon they will sue your friend for not telling them were it is. They are probably just waiting to see if he will pay it back before they have to go that far.
