I have seen homes built completely round and are so unique. They are kit homes and shipped from the manufacturer, I would like to know about the experience with them and if it was all worth it. Would you do things differently and were there any serious drawbacks to the process. What is the shipping cost to the site. This type of home is Green and withstands all types of storms, etc, due to the contruction of being in the round design.

  1. I've never seen any of those round houses.  But I've seen the one at the Henry Ford Museum.  It was cool, but now days they said it would cost around $100,000+ to build one like it.

  2. I can think of 3 kinds of round houses...there are probably many more.  The first is a yurt.  i know they come in kit form, but they are mainly for nomadic types, not particularly strong.  the second s a geodesic dome. could be in kit form, i suppose.  they are made out of triangles attached to struts although you could even make them out of large pieces of card board, stapled together, seams sealed with duct tape and the whole thng painted w/epoxy.

the third is a monolithic dome. not a kit and certainly not portable, but will stand up to a cat V tornado..
