Does anyone out there live next to wind turbines?

Our county just passed new zoning. The new zoning has enabled 400' wind turbines to come into our town. Everyone is in an uproar due to the negitive publicity that surrounds this technology. There will be 135-140 of these massive turbines located near our small town of 20,000 people. Ours is an University town so in the summer that amount dramatically dips down. The turbines will be located within 1500' to the nearest homeowners that lives on the outskirts of town and within 3 miles of the town itself. I personally will be living 2 miles from the nearest white monster, with open countryside between me and IT. Can anyone fill me in as to what to expect from this new development?

They just threw up about 20 of these bad boys not to far from me.  Near downtown Buffalo (NY).  There was a huge uproar before they put them up.  It seems now that anyone could care less.  they're quite, they don't pee on the carpet and they don't talk back.

I live near the shore of Lake Ontario and I know a small town around there are having the same problems.  So Sad to see, Good Luck with your problems

Maybe 1,500 feet is a little close, but 2 miles is no problem in my mind. Would you prefer a coal fired power plant 1,500 feet from your house? How about a nuclear reactor?

"Negative publicity", "uproar", "white monster"???  Where are you from, under a rock?   Wind turbines create CLEAN energy.  Out of curiosity what powers your town now?   Too bad one or two wasn't being offered to be built on property you own.  Then those "monsters" would become "money trees"!!!!  Get your head out of the hole you have it in and think outside your small town box.  We have acres in northern Pa. and would gladly add a few wind turbines if it meant helping Pa. get clean energy.  They create a hypnotic drone, and are amazing to watch.  We have them by our winter home.

decreased dependance on foreign oil and increased responsibility for our enviroment.

as far as harm, very minimum. less harmful than a cellphone tower
