Question:

Does anyone own Antarctica, or otherwise prevent people from living there?

Meaning, really, how would one go about moving to Antarctica? Theoretically, of course-- meaning that the actual move, cold, etc don't matter. Just, really, COULD anyone move to Antarctica if they so wished (and happened to be able to survive there).

Just something I was curious about, nothing that anyone's actually considering. At least, not that know of! :)

  1. no one i have ever heard of lives in Antarctica because it is to cold however a lot of research goes on down there.

  2. 45 countries have signed the Antrctica treaty. There are different divisions so I know they have British Antarctica. Australian division and New Zealand Division. The only people that live there for any time are researches so all supplies need to go in with them . Unless you where very well organised you could not survive there .and those that do research there can only stay until there supplies run low.

  3. antarctica is separated in different parts.

They belong to different countries, like Argentina, Chile, Australia, etc.

    Scientists and military live there.

  4. No one lives there and i dont think anyone is allowed to live there.Antartica is an endangered land.Could you imagine if people were allowed to live there?they would cause a lot of destruction of the enviroment and the animals who live there.

  5. No one owns it....it's just too cold to live there.

I have a friend who stayed at a base camp in Antartica for 6 months. He said it was really cold.....and he wouldn't want to stay longer than that.
