I want to primarly use it for flatwater...but would also like to hit classII-III with it ocasionally: which would be best? I am planning on adding float bags to either.

  1. I have an old town canoe, but I rarely do class IIIs with it. I have in the past, but stick mostly to class IIs unless I'm in a kayak.

In terms of hull strength, my canoe has been through a lot, and would probably be able to handle class IIIs, but other than that, I don't think I can help you too much. If you are planning on a multi-day trip you need to keep in mind that your canoe will ride lower in the water with the added gear, and the river may become to shallow for you to navigate the rapids. Also if you are planning on doing the bigger rapids you may want to have float bags for extra buoyancy and a spraydeck to keep water from getting in and swamping the boat.
