  1. Yes, it's good!

    Yes, it's free!

    Yes, I would recommend it!

Just remember, Second Life is not your typical online game or mmorpg. It is more than a game, it is more like a platform where other applications can be developed since it has its own scripting languange.

Wha to do in Second Life? It depends on what interests you? If you like fishing then there are fishing areas. If you like roleplay and combat then there are regions made for that like The Roman Empire, The Spartan Empire, Samurai Japan, etc.

The possibilities are vast. If you can imagine it then you might be able to do it.

  2. 2nd life is popular. lots of people play it. It IS free. I wouldn't recommend it because it's lame. it's more lame than World of Warcraft addiction. You can do  'anything you want' walk around talk to people. Everyone has to make their own activities.

  3. It's difficult to describe SL easily, because it's all things to everyone and space is limited here. I went into it pretty blind after a friend recommended it and wouldn't say anything until I was there. The difference is, he was there to guide me through my first days and show me what happens.

    So ...

It's a 3D virtual world where you create an avatar that is you within this world. You can walk, run, sit, dance, swim and even fly. The world is made up of thousands of square regions that, altogether, make up an area roughly the size of Greater London and it's getting bigger all the time. You can communicate with other people in SL with typed chat, instant messages or even live (voice) chat.

What you do in SL is entirely up to you. You can go shopping, build things, join a role-playing group (anything you can imagine), go to clubs with DJs playing music, go to live concerts, go on a date, fly or drive vehicles, go to a college class, or just explore.

Dating is a very popular pastime in SL, because of the ability for two avatars to interact. Avatars can dance together, hug, cuddle, kiss and ... ummm ... do 'other' things. Even if you don't intend to go on dates, you still make friends - lots of friends. Dates and relationships seem to just happen as a result of these friendships sometimes. Sadly, there are people who come to SL with the sole intention of engaging in cybersex and that's all they're interested in.

SL is free to join and play, but shopping is a big part of SL. For this you need money and the easiest way is to add your credit card details to your account page at the website and buy SL currency (L$). Around $4.80 US will buy you L$1000, so it's not really expensive and you buy money as and when you need it. Everything you see for sale is made by SL residents like you and me, so it's a good idea to take a few building classes so you can make and sell things.

OK, there's lots more to tell about SL and not enough space here. I suggest you send me a private message and I can explain a lot more, including what to do when you first get into SL.

Is it any good? I think so. I've been here almost 2 years and I still get a kick out of it. I've made some really great friends - a few that I've met in real life now too.

It's free to try it so go to:
