Question:

Does anyone realize how complex Alicia's attempted beam mount was?

She was doing everything she could to pull the US into the lead. If she played it safe and just popped up on the mount like Shawn, there would still be more work and pressure on her team to pull into the lead. She took a calculated risk. She was unsuccessful, but that's how risks go. People should not be dissing her, including herself.

  1. You have a thing for flat chested muscular midgets, don't you?

  2. I agree.

Personally, I think she did the best she could considering how scared and nervous she seemed.

Alicia is also taller and a bit heavier than the other girls.  Shawn is very petite...naturally she would be lighter up there on the beam than Alicia would.  I believe both "nerves and curves" caused poor Alicia to fall the way she did, twice.

All the girls have pressure to succeed.   I think Shawn has it the most, but she exudes confidence and natural ability.   Alicia just looked really nervous...and then sad, because she probably felt like she let her team down.

  3. iTS CRAZY...Its alot of pressure .......They are constantly under the micoscope ...They have to be almost perfect.

  4. yes of course, it would have been an excellent routine had she not fallen off and im sure she would have kept her composure throughout the whole competition, I wasnt aware people were dissing her but it is rather sad that they are.

  5. I LOVE SACRAMONE!!!  I HOPE SHE DOES WELL DURING VAULT FINALS!!!

    GO ALICIA!!!

  6. I guess the answer to the only question I see you ask is 'yes, I realized how complex Alicia's attempted beam mount was.'

Top athletes always have high expectations, or they wouldn't be top athletes. I thought it was commendable of her to admit her mistakes and take responsibility for them. It's called being accountable and it's an admirable quality.

However, it wasn't just falling off the beam but that combined with her fall on the floor routine (which shouldn't have happened) that caused it. Did her errors cost the team the gold? Yes. But so what? Even the best athletes in the world make mistakes. Even when they do their best mistakes are made. But that's also the risk you have to take. If she would have hit those she would have been the hero (and she has in the past and received the credit she was due).

Let's put it this way: The higher the risk the higher the payout! Hit the routine and the payout is great, miss it and you pay the price.

I don't think the public or the press should 'diss' her but reporting the facts are not always 'dissing' the athlete.

I thought Karolyi was out of line and should have been more supportive if she wanted a better performance on her next routine though.

PS: That didn't cost US any medals. It may have cost the US Women's gymnastics team a gold medal though.
